The path of Qualia has begun in '98 under Wide Horizon moniker as an organisation for promotion of electronic music in small town of Lendava, Slovenia. In 2001 WH finally grows into a musical project, as former guitar player Alan Ropoša and Maja Gaber joined their forces. Alan is also a graduate at the Faculty of social sciences in Ljubljana, finishing cultural studies program, while Maja works as a visual merchandiser and stylist in fashion industry. The very essence of Qualia is to create music, which combines both energy and emotions, body and mind and is thus rather eclectic in nature. In practical terms this would mean groovy beats and percussions, overlayed with melodical passages, incidental sounds and driving yet musical basses.
They perform their music in the form of a live act, which includes samplers, a computer, effects and other gadgets, dance animation and live guitar parts played ba Qualia's guest member Marco Ramovich. Being one of the few progressive live acts with their distinctive "in between" style, containing elements of progressive house, funky tech-house, deep house and even a bit of trance they performed live shows in almost every club in Slovenia and also few in Croatia. Beside that, they are members of influental slovenian electronic music organisations Sound Option and Psilon-Empire.
In the beginning of 2004 they changed their artist name from Wide Horizon to Qualia and started a new chapter by signing two of their tracks, Qualia Nation and Phenomenology to successful and respected british label Minimal Records. Their debut EP should be released in the end of the summer, but one of the included tracks (Phenomenology) is already gaining good reputation, since Chi Recordings, well known label in the east european area, has put it three weeks in the row on their radio show at popular Budapest alternative radio station Tilos Radio. They've also begun receiving support from across the sea, since their tracks rocked the floor at Institution Recs party at the infamous WMC 04 in Miami. The two partners would also like to do some more remixes after their recent ventures, when they remixed Justin Robertson's track for Future Music Magazine and inovative Argentinian producers Big Head for Sinister Recordings. Unfortunately, label decided that they won't release the original track.
In the near future Qualia plans to perform more live acts, first of them taking place in April together with Scumfrog, but in the meantime they are hoping for successful release of their debut EP and of course, making some music.
